Why this matters.
Another reviewer claimed this was too unrealistic, that helpful men and other people don't show up and help abused women. Too often that's true because, who wants to be anywhere near a situation involving an angry man?! Can you blame them? Still, many, many people DO help and they deserve credit!
Why this film matters is because we need to see these women, these children represented on screen. Their lives represent the fallout of all the Law & Order episodes and films like Room, Raging Bull, Leaving Las Vegas, Death Wish, ec, etc, etc.
Violence against women is just another way for Hollywood to make big bucks. Do men even know how much they too are losing by such cruel and uncivilized narratives? What about the damage done to them because of how commodified violence is right now? How many young men will go to war because they think it's part and parcel of 'being a man'? This film matters because it can lead us away from the bitter and insane stories that right now, far too many film producers, directors and investors are making billions on at the expense of everyone else.
