Press firmly all the way through until you hear a click
At first I was going to give the hole punch a very low review of 1 star. Like so many others, I couldn't get it to punch all the way through my belt or make a hole. But I finally realized I wasn't doing it right. Here is what you're supposed to do: 1. Press firmly all the way through until you hear a click of metal on metal. That means you pressed it hard enough to create a hole. 2. If that doesn't give you a good clean hole, after you've pressed it through , rotate the punch just a little bit like in a circle, sort of like a can opener. 3. It's a good idea to punch from the rough side or back side. That way when the punch goes through it will come out on the smooth front side and will tend to make a nice full cut smoothly all the way around. Usually you only have to do number 1. Once I figured it out, I was able to punch a whole sequence of belt holes in multiple belts quickly and very easily, where before I couldn't even do one hole in one belt. So the tool works the way it supposed to . Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Because the instructions that I just wrote out above ~ought to have been included in the package~. There is a tendency these days for companies that produce something to not give you any explanation or instruction**. Normally I would knock the rating all the way down to a two or three because of that. But because so many people have given this an unfair 1 or a 2 rating when the thing is well made for its purpose and, if they simply play with it a little, it will do exactly what it is supposed to do, I've moved the rating back up to 4 stars. ** Please, Amazon reviewers, start knocking off a couple points whenever a vendor doesn't provide you with at least a little slip of paper with some simple and clear instructions. Get in the habit of doing that until the vendors do their jobs properly.
