Jackie Evancho is no longer destined for greatness...
...she has already arrived.
My intention here was to say something different about Jackie Evancho's singing and Songs from the Silver Screen, so I started reading the reviews to see what ground had already been covered. This is what I found (in part): "exceptional, beautiful, amazing, haunting, prodigy, subtlety, exquisite, pitch-perfect, crystal clarity, power, stunning warmth, perfect, devastating, immaculate phrasing, angelic, genius, evanescent, awe-inspiring, gorgeous, incredible, outstanding, magnificent...and wow x's 8."
So...since all the superlatives have been used up already, I am going attempt to describe the indescribable without them.
Do you know that catch in your throat you get the first time your baby looks into your eyes and smiles? How about in church when you suddenly feel humbled by the many blessings you know you are so unworthy to have received? Or that bittersweet reverie you fall into when something reminds you of a long-lost love? Maybe a quiet morning in a peaceful place with a bird singing so sweetly that you suddenly realize you are holding your breath? Those emotions pretty much describe how you're going to feel listening to the first song on the CD. Now, for the second song...OK, just kidding, but only a little.
Everyone is going to react differently to the songs on any CD, but I can almost guarantee that you will understand what I am trying to say about this one (or any collection of Jackie Evancho songs) by the time the last note of it echos through your mind. David Foster once said that Jackie can be whatever she wants to be, from the greatest opera singer to the greatest pop singer of her time. Nothing in Songs from the Silver Screen makes me doubt his assessment.
I can't afford a Rolls-Royce or a yacht or a home in Palm Beach, but I can afford a Jackie Evancho CD...and you can't get any better than that.
