Works right away, Small pill and no fillers, but only 20mg per capsule.
The company has changed the label to reflect the actual elemetal magnesium content, so I'm updating my review. + Not Buffered - Some magnesium bisglycinate on the market is “buffered”, which usually means that magnesium oxide has been “mixed in” with the magnesium bisglycinate. This makes the product cheaper but also less absorbed and useful, and unfortunately, companies often won’t mention whether or not they are using a “buffered” form. Bioschwartz says its unbuffered. + Bonded to Glycine for better Absorption without GI discomfort, the bond is easily broken so the body can get to and use the magnesium. Some forms no matter how much you take, the body is barely able to break the bond and use it. + Vegetable capsule with no fillers or binders + Smallest capsules on market for those that cannot swallow larger pills or dont wish to use a topical magnesium chloride spray to be absorbed through the skin. + Many forms require adequate stomach acid, this one does not. - Amount of elemental magnesium is only 20mg per capsule. Magnesium can’t just be by itself as a molecule, it has to be bound to something else to be stable. The biggest difference in different magnesium products is not from the magnesium itself (which is all the same) but from the molecule its bonded to which also have added benefits. If you are taking your magnesium in a form where the bond is hard to break such as Magnesium Oxide, then you might as well be taking nothing at all because most will just pass right through you although that form is good for constipation. In other words, it is like there is crazy glue holding the magnesium to its carrier, and if your body can't break the bond, then you won't absorb much if any. Magnesium Bisglycinate is bonded to Glycine which allows the Magnesium to more effectively pass through the intestine. This allows for maximum absorption of what you take without the digestive discomfort generally associated with Magnesium supplementation. The bond in this form is easily broken so the body can get to the magnesium and therefore makes a good option for a supplement. The other part - Glycine is a relaxant, so it may work well for anxiety. Less then 30% of U.S. adults consume the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of magnesium, and that statistic is based on the RDA intake that many experts believe is far below what we really need. The amount of Elemental magnesium in each capsule is 20mg, which is around 5% of the RDA. With that said, I found that due to the vegetable capsule and being in a well absorbed form, it had beneficial effects pretty quickly on my stiff muscles and leg cramps so I know its working when you need some magnesium right away, but may not be a good source to fix a deficiency by itself. I'd love to see a bigger vegetable capsule still without fillers from this company with around 75mg or even 100mg if possible for those of us who can swallow larger pills but want a higher dose. As magnesium can have heavy metals, I'd like to see it rated by labdoor or consumerlab regarding that or more info on their third party they use now. Taking 520 of Magnesium Chloride for example will have around 62mg elemental so always know the amount of elemental you are getting, and consider the absorption rate of the form, as some forms like oxide may only absorb 4% of the elemental you take in and require stomach acid so may not be very useful even if it lists hundreds of mg. Magnesium will detox cells so you might need to increase slowly if you have been low awhile and this may be a good choice then. Unfortunately, it is also difficult to reliably supply our bodies with sufficient magnesium, even from a good, balanced whole foods diet. Magnesium, in fact, is one of the most depleted minerals in farm soils. The vast majority of people are deficient in magnesium also due to factors such as the presence of heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, or excess copper. Sugar guzzles through magnesium stores during metabolism and also increases the excretion of magnesium by the kidneys by inhibiting tubular reabsorption. Phytic Acid in nuts, grains, and legumes increase magnesium elimination. Wifi and Emf, Caffeine, alcohol, cannabis, heavy sweating such as endurance sports, night sweats, hot flashes, phosphates in sodas, deli meats, and cereals bind to magnesium, fats bind to magnesium, a high calcium level inhibits magnesium absorption and many drugs deplete it and this is just a partial list. Also did I mention stressors? Has my review been of help to you? If so, would you consider hitting the "helpful" button below? I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
