Almost five stars... almost.
I would love to give this five stars, but I can't. Allow me to explain...
The good:
The vacuum has so much suction! We bought this because our DC25 Animal was pretty well beat up and not working properly anymore. I just vacuumed a couple days ago and then ran this new one over the same area. I ended up with an entire bin full of stuff. Pretty amazing how this outperforms another Dyson. We used to have the cat litter box on the carpet about a year ago. We've long since moved it because the litter was getting into the carpet (of course). In that year's time that spot has been vacuumed plenty of times with our old Dyson and I haven't heard any litter getting sucked up in quite a while. In fact, I hadn't thought about the litter box having been in that spot for months - until today when I heard the new one sucking up a lot of litter. Amazing!! I also like the new upholstery tool, it seems to do a better job than the old version. The cord on this new vacuum is beefed up so it doesn't get as warm as the old one. The packaging it arrived in was very intelligently designed and it seems like Dyson stole a packaging designer from IKEA. Also, this one is a lot quieter than our DC25 is. The best part though; no filters to wash!
The not-so-good:
This thing is heavy. It's considerably heavier than our DC25. If you have multiple stories to vacuum, this might not be the one for you.
You cannot "drive" the vacuum across the floor on its wheels. They pop back and the head drops. This is pretty annoying on such a heavy vacuum.
They put the head's motor on TOP of the head. This vacuum doesn't go as far under our couches as the DC25 did. That's annoying because it leaves crumbs and things just out of reach (yes, we eat in front of the TV sometimes).
It's harder to steer than our DC25. Probably because of the weight, but it might also be because it's new.
The head on this one is just slightly wider than the one on the DC25. I had to move tables, speakers and plants to accommodate the larger head - my furniture was setup to let the DC25 slip in between places but this new one doesn't fit. Minor annoyance, and you only have to deal with this once..
Did I mention it's heavy?
To sum up:
This vacuum SUCKS, which is a good thing! It's heavy and the head doesn't get under our couches, that's why it got 4/5 instead of 5/5 stars.
