Shocked By The Bad Advice
Do not take the word of just anyone when to apply this product. I've used this product for ten years, but only in the last four has it really worked wonders. Why? Because I stopped listening to the neighbors who said to get this down once the snow melts (usually early April in the Northeast). Instead I did some research, which I'm embarrassed I didn't do earlier, and went to this website: http://www.gardening.cornell.edu/homegardening/scene1480.html Cornell is one of the top agricultural universities in the world, and it says to wait until soil temperatures warm up. The exact paragraph from the site says: "Crabgrass germinates best at 59F to 65 F. So wait for soil to warm before applying pre-emergence crabgrass control. Soil in thin or bare spots warms up sooner. Reseed these spots in early spring, or be prepared to apply crabgrass control earlier than for the rest of the lawn." I now apply this product after we get one full week in the mid sixties. It works wonders. Highly recommend this product, especially this one without fertilizer, because you can get down the spring fertilizer a couple of weeks early to give your lawn a head start, then stop the crabgrass just when it wants to germinate. This double whammy of strong grass plus depressing crabgrass growth really took my lawn to the envy of the neighborhood. Amazing what a little science and research can do.
