It IS as free as it seems
While it is a large download, it's worth it for such a good game. The one and only complaint I have is that everything takes a long time to do. It's ideal for someone who doesn't want to be in game constantly. The big experience and money-makers take 6 to 10 hours to complete. It's also a little frustrating that you need an Internet connection to play, even if you're not doing anything online.
The "most helpful critical review" user who claims it isn't free didn't play long enough to understand the game. One of the first things the game has you do is a task to make more money, and Sims CAN get jobs. I've been playing two weeks now, have a built-up town with 9 sims, a small fortune in simoleons and lifepoints, and I haven't spent a cent of real money. It isn't the best game for someone short on patience, I guess, but if you take half an hour to learn how to actually play before getting fed up and quitting, it's a fun game and a great time killer.
