I used it as directed. spray it once on clean shoes, spray it again when it dried, then spray one last time after it has been worn in wet weather. The water beads up and just slides off the shoes. I was walking on wet grass in the rain and my shoes stayed dry and clean, altho wet spot did start to appear when I ran through a downpour. It does what it says, however, it does make the color of your shoes slightly darker and it does smell like nail polish (so do the spraying in a well ventilated area). I have never tried other brands of suede protectors, but for ~$5, it is definitely worth the price. UPDATE: I think the spray stops working after you wear the shoes for 3-4 month. My shoes got wet when I was walking in the snow...or maybe it's a bit too much water for the protector... UPDATE 2: Whatever you choose to buy, it has to be waterproof AND stainproof. I tried another brand of waterproof spray after this. While that works, the boots got dusty/dirty after 1 week. Let me tell you, trying to wet a pair of freshly waterproofed boots for cleaning is NOT fun... Therefore, this is the best I found, because it is waterproof AND stainproof.
