The honest review you’re looking for
You:
- Don’t want to admit your Airpods are SLIGHTLY too slippery for your taste
- Watched a YouTube video OR heard there was such a thing as thin rubbers that can go over your AirPods to give more grip (and possibly even additional ambient noise cancelation that comes with it)
- Looked at many reviews and are still decided whether or not to get them
- Heard they are possibly too thin and break
- Heard they are hard to get on
- Heard they possibly reduce sound quality after putting them on
- Heard the AirPods don’t fit in the case after putting them on
HERE’S THE DEAL:
- I admited my Airpods are SLIGHTLY too slippery for my taste
- Watched a YouTube video and heard there was such a thing as thin rubbers that can go over your AirPods to give more grip (and possibly even additional ambient noise cancelation that comes with it)
- Looked at many reviews and purchased them
- They are thin, but strong, and will probably only break with unnecessary force
- I spent a total of 20 seconds getting each one on, and I didn’t even watch the video. Just slip the tapered/speaker side on first, while grabbing the back lip and slip them on. Then use your fingerprints/fingernails to continuously rub them down into place. It’s not as hard as people make it sound
- The sound quality is the exact same. Why? Because the rubber doesn’t actually block out any of the speaker. If anything, the ambient noise is blocked slightly more because of the rubber compliance and thickness
- The Airpods do fit in the case just fine. Actually, I can close the lid while just holding the base, and flicking my wrist to let the lid snap closed without touching the lid at all. It stays closed and is not hard to open. Yes the lid does graze the rubber a little, but there’s actually still plenty of room as shown in my photos. It’s probably not enough to wear it down at all
That’s an honest review from an engineering PhD student, I will edit this if my opinion changes.
