If You are Ready for Results, THIS is the Workout
I will start off by saying that I am still in my first month, but I wanted to get a review out there for those who are looking to get started. I will be updating this a few times as I progress. My background: Male, 160 lbs, just turned 36 at the time this review was written. Body fat was around 11.5% , but too many Christmas cookies got me recently back over 12.5% ( since starting Max 30, trending back down ). I have completed multiple rounds of Insanity, Insanity Asylum, P90X 1,2 and 3, most recently doing P90X 3 for the last year. As with most other workouts, as much as I Loved it, I started to plateau. New Year, new program, I randomly stumbled upon Max 30 in Men's Health. I had no idea it was coming out and I was pumped and ready for the change. Generally, I like to start new workouts on a Monday, as that's how the schedule for Max 30 sets up ( monday-friday), but I couldn't wait, and started on a Saturday. Ok enough BS , let's get down to bizness... The Workouts: As I stated earlier, the calendar starts on Monday. U do 5 workouts, then 1 optional light recovery workout, followed by a day of rest. The workouts are all 30 minutes ( hence Max 30) , except for the Pulse (optional) workout which is only 20 minutes. There is also an ab workout that you can add which is 10-15 min. Each workout ends with a 2 minute cool down. Weeks 1 and 2 schedule: Cardio Challenge- Pretty standard Insanity style. Jumps, sprints, burpees, and some abs Tabata Power- Intervals with 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off Sweat Intervals- Similar in style to Cardio Challenge Tabata Power Friday Fight, round 1: Absolutely brutal. No water break for the first 15 minutes. Awesome workout, but tough. Pulse or Rest Rest. After 2 weeks u substitute Tabata Power with Tabata Strength. Month 2 adds MAX OUT Cario, Power, Sweat, Strength and Friday Fight round 2. I will review these when I get there. Are the workouts hard? Yes! But that's what you want right? Perhaps you are a Beachbody vet like myself , or maybe you are a treadmill junkie looking to make the change. Unless you are seriously overweight or have major health issues, you can do Max 30. I get exhausted, and I get short of breath and I'm dying for water, but I make it through and by the end of the workout, I feel amazing. You sweat like you can't believe, but the workouts go by fast. As much as I love p90x3 (it's my favorite Beachbody workout), I didn't come close to sweating like I do with Max 30. Shaun T is the ultimate motivator. He pushes you to succeed, like having a personal trainer right there with you. The big thing with this workout is that Shaun T invites you to write down your Max Out minute. For example, let's say you push to 11 minutes, then finally you're just dying for a break, you've maxed out, and you write down which minute that is ( there is a little max out timer on the screen ), and you try and push just a little further than last time. Cons? Only 1 right now. There is no really intense stretch at the end. The 2 minutes is a brief cool down and very light stretch. After a workout like that, I feel you need a real stretch to properly prevent injury. That being said, I do appreciate the brevity as I know they are trying to keep it around 30 minutes, and I can always do extra stretching on my own. In conclusion, I really love Max 30 and I'm pumped they came out with it. I skipped T 25 because I heard mixed reviews. This to me is an awesome workout. 1 caveat tho. You can do as much Max 30 as you want, but if you eat lots of cake , sweets, and fried foods, don't expect too much. If you are investing in this workout, invest in yourself, and the food you eat. Little by little make smarter decisions on how you eat, follow his program, and you will be looking and feeling great in no time. I'll be back for more detail.
