I really feel compelled to write a review
Ignorant Amazon reviews and aluminum products go hand in hand. You can look at ANY bare aluminum product anywhere on this site, and you will see the same thing: massive one-star reviews because the product oxidized (turned black) after the person ran it through the dishwasher. It's akin to people faulting cast iron products for rusting. Sorry, bare aluminum is not dishwasher-safe, and never has been, so please stop blaming a perfectly good product for something that is your fault.
But what about the lead warning? That is the result of the California Prop 65. All products sold within the state of California require this label if anything meets the Prop 65 requirements, which have very low tolerances. Most of the country has no idea that this exists, so it can seem surprising. You can find Prop 65 warning labels on many things in California, like gas stations, designated smoking areas, lumber yards, and many other places and products. If this lead warning still persuades you to avoid this product, then I urge you to stop eating out at any restaurant, because I guarantee you that most are using the same or similar products to scoop your ice or cook your soup. Aluminum is very common in commercial kitchens, and those Prop 65 labels are not going to be present in other states.
Now as for this scoop itself - I bought the 5 ounce size for scooping flour out of a container. It's absolutely perfect. Flour slides out of an aluminum scoop much better than it slides out of a plastic scoop. Make sure you realize how big 5 ounces really is, it seems not everyone considers that. For example, 8 fluid ounces is one cup of water. So this scoop holds just over 1/2 cup of water. You can get a little less than 1 cup of flour in one scoop. My scoop is still perfectly shiny, just like new, because I spent 10 seconds hand-washing it with dish soap (not to be confused with dish detergent), and didn't put it in the dishwasher. It will stay shiny like this for decades, if not a lifetime.
