Background: So, have you heard of the Appalachian Trail? Ever tried to hike it? I did. I attempted a 'flip flop' hike where you start in the middle of the 2000+ mile trail, hike to the northern terminus in Maine, start back in the middle, and then hike to the southern end. I made it over three hundred miles from the top of Virginia to New Jersey before I rubbed the skin off my shoulder. The doctors said I wouldn't be back on the trail this season and instead had to find an alternative. So, if I can't wear a pack, how can I hike? Well, I thought it might be interesting to toss all my gear in a cart and tow it along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath and Great Allegheny Passage Trail. These trails are usually big for bikers as they're relatively flat and smooth to ride on. So, I rigged up the cart to the waist belt of my backpack and pulled it. I was looking for a cart that would perform well not just on a paved surface but also on crushed limestone and tough gravel. I didn't have time for flats or difficult repairs so I needed a relatively simple cart to assemble and hard rubber wheels over inflated ones. One might wonder whether a simple, thirty dollar amazon cart could last a three week trek. It did. And it's still going. While this cart did begin to stutter after two hundred miles of tough gravel and mud, it made it the rest of the way and still rolls relatively smoothly today. If anyone is looking for a highly durable cart or has ANY questions about this one whatsoever, feel free to ask. I lived out of this cart and can honestly say it saved my backpacking adventures.
