Comparing this to the previous model. Is it worth upgrading?
I'll be comparing this to the Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean Rechargeable Toothbrush w/Deep Clean Mode with Adaptive Clean Brush Head, Black which is an earlier model that I've used for the past two years (pink is the new one, black is the earlier model). If you haven't tried a sonic toothbrush before you will be amazed at how clean your teeth feel. Using a sonic brush rivals any cleaning I've ever gotten at a dentist office. I won't ever go back. That being said, there is some sticker shock with most sonic brushes. My previous Sonicare Diamond Clean brush was $139 which felt obscene until I tried it. This new brush is over $100 more. Is it really worth it? No. Probably not. If you already own a Diamond Clean brush, the upgrades here are not worth the price hike in my opinion. This brush is a little smoother--if that's the way to describe the sonic pulsing action--but not in a massively noticeable way. You get an extra brush head, a tongue cleaning head to go along with the new tongue cleaning mode, and the brush can automatically detect the type of head you are using and use the corresponding brush mode. Oh and you can track your brushing in an app. Cool stuff, sure, but $100+ worth of cool stuff? Not for me. I do really love this line though--hence the 4-star rating-- and if you want the extra features this brush provides, you won't be disappointed. I love mine, but if you don't want to spend the money, you can get a similar result from less expensive models
