A brief comparison of two Daily Missal books
This review is to provide a brief comparison between this Saint Paul Daily Missal (SPDM) and Daily Roman Missal (DRM) published by Our Sunday Visitors (ISBN-13: 978-1612785097). The two Missal books are of similar physical size. The spine of SPDM is slightly curved, while the DRM's is flat. The cover of DRM is padded bonded leather, and the cover of SPDM is just a piece of faux leather over paper. The paper is beige in DRM, bright white in SPDM. Personally I prefer the bright white paper, which is easier to read in dim lighting situation. The fonts are different, but the font size of the two Missal books is about the same. The ink is darker, the space between the words and lines is less compressed in SPDM, making SPDM gentler to the eyes. DRM was printed in Italy. SPDM was printed in China. Both are of excellent printing and binding quality. Both used high quality papers, thin but not bleeding through. Both were printed in red and black inks. DRM has six bookmark ribbons, while SPDM has four. In the Order of Mass section, DRM has Latin on the left page, English on the right page. SPDM has English only. DRM also provides Latin text for the Entrance Antiphon, Responsorial Palms (Response only), Alleluia, Verse before the Gospel, and Communion Antiphon. In Celebration of the Saints, DRM lists the exact page numbers to the specific readings for the Liturgy of the Word. SPDM usually provides the page number to a Common group, such as, Common of Martyrs. One needs to find the specific readings from the Common group. The Liturgical Calendar goes to the Year 2017 in SPDM, 2024 in DRM.
