I've been going back and forth for months as to whether to buy a cat tree for my two cats. I have a relatively small apartment and I try to keep it looking decent, and cat furniture is just ugly. I finally gave in and I'm glad I did. As cat trees go, this one is unobtrusive for its size. I think this is due to the design, which has more flat platforms than bulky cubbies. Also, because the carpet is more like fleece and less like the kind of carpet that is normally used on cat furniture, it has a more delicate look to it. Then again, I may just be deluding myself because I am so happy with this item. First off, it is very easy to put together. Took me about 20 minutes. The pieces are marked clearly and the directions are easy to follow. Second, it's sturdy. I live in an old (pre-earthquake) apartment in San Francisco, and the floors are uneven. I expected that I would have to put a shim under the foot of the tree in order to keep it steady. As it turns out, it's fine. The cats have been jumping on and off it since I put it up, and there isn't a hint of instability. Third, it's fun. They play on and around it, sleep on it, use it as a perch to look out the window, and stage recreations of famous historic Cat Battles on it. Finally, it's cheap. The nearest similar item in my local pet supply store cost more than twice as much. I'm glad I bought it.
