I put in a new SSD into this enclosure and connected it to my laptop's USB. At first, my laptop only saw the Sabrent enclosure but not the hard drive. I changed USB ports, even tried it on another computer. Same result, can't recognize hard drive! I was about to return this because I thought it was broke and saw other reviewers having the same problem. I googled my problem and it was suggested that if this is a new hard drive, which it was, I need to first format it before windows could see it. So I reconnected the enclosure and went to disk management. For windows 10, just type disk management. Google this if you have anything other than Windows 10. I found a youtube video on how to do it. The new hard drive will show up in there! From there,I did a quick format which only took 2 minutes. After that, my new hard drive showed up! Then I used the free Macrium cloning software to clone my old HDD to the new SSD, swapped them out, and boom! All good. It did take about 3 hours to clone a 256 HDD to SSD tho. So remember, if you have a new hard drive, please format it first.
