Speigen Tough Armor vs. Slim Armor iPhone 6 Plus Case (UPDATE)
Let me start by saying I own both cases. The Slim Armor is a very nice, sleek case but the Tough Armor case is the hands down winner. Here is why: The only reason is because the Tough Armor case is easier to grip and hold in your hand. This is strictly due to the design of the cases. Slim Armor uses a curved/rounded design on the sides, top and bottom which mimics the curved design of the new iPhone. However because of this design you are gripping the smooth plastic shell of the case and it is more slippery and requires attention when picking up the phone or you could risk it slipping out of your hand. That actually happened to me. Fortunately it fell on the sofa. The Tough Armor case utilizes a square design on all four sides. The rubber bezel is more pronounced so when you go to pick it up your hand grips the side of the case and the sides of the rubber bezel making the phone very stable in your hand. Even holding the phone is easier because your hand is gripping the upper portion of the rubber bezel. The difference in feel is like day and night. The power and volume buttons are also more pronounced making them easier to operate. All of this functionality in virtually the same size cases. There is not two cents difference between the size of the two cases, just the design. I would also like to comment on certain negative reviews I have read about the kickstand. The kickstand works fine. But to make it stable you must have the phone installed. The pressure of the phone holds the kickstand in place and it will not fall out. It swings open and snaps closed perfectly. Now if you want to break it on purpose that could be done. Just like you could bend the iPhone if you put your mind to it. There are also negative reviews about the cutout for the silence switch being too deep. While that is somewhat true, using your pinky finger solves that problem. I might add that the cutout on the Tough Armor is wider than the cutout on the Slim Armor making my index finger work with the silence switch in addition to the pinky finger. All-in-all these are very nice cases. Both cases work perfectly with the Bodyguardz Glass Screen Protector. I don't think you would have a problem with any screen protector out there. The bezels do not interfere with the iPhone screen edges at all. The headphone port cutout seems large enough to handle most headphone jacks. Hard to tell with the charging port due to all the various aftermarket cables out there. But if the cable jack is similar to the one provided with iPhone you will not have a problem There is nothing about this case that I don't like. It is sleek and slim plus it fits like a glove. I also like the tiny feet they placed on the back that keeps the case shell from totally laying flat on a surface. It does have lip protection for the screen but I highly recommend a screen protector. Then you are pretty much protected from mishaps unless you drop it in the pool. For that type of protection you better get a sealed case. Also the tiny feet I mentioned to raise the phone just a bit off of a table is only on theTough Armor Model. Speigen states Slim Armor has it but my Slim Armor does not. UPDATE: I have read reviews where people have stated the kickstand was hard to open or locked in place so to speak. I too encountered this issue with my first case. I could not open the kickstand. And if you force it there is a possibility it could break. I discovered the problem. The stand was wedged out of place under the bottom shell. To correct this remove the colored outer shell. Then position the kickstand side pieces in the recessed grooves of the under shell. Place the outer shell back in place making sure the kickstand does not move out of the grooves of the under shell. Snap in place. Then your kickstand will open easily and lock in place when you press it back in the outer shell. I can only assume that during manufacture assembly the kickstand was not properly placed between the shells.
