We have a medium sized (70 lb) German Shepard who had surgery on her side. She was having a terrible time with the plastic e-collar from the vet. She wears this blow up collar all the time without a whimper and sleeps on it like it's a pillow. It keeps her from reaching her side no problem. It would not keep her from getting to her paws...front or back, but anywhere on her body is protected from biting and nibbling. Her own collar slipped through the loops so it stays on. If that wasn't the case, it would be too large for her 16" neck. I did tighten her normal collar so that she couldn't pull it off using the e-collar. I also used the sock with the toe cut off to go over the Velcro closure like another reviewer suggested. Glad I read that. He was correct about the Velcro always going to the bottom of the neck and rubbing on her chin if it isn't covered. Some reviewers have mentioned how their dogs chewed this. Properly fit, there is no way our dog can get her mouth on any part of this to chew, especially with the Velcro strap covered.
