3 Car Garage in Texas
I setup my business in my garage temporarily while we build a shop elsewhere. I insulated the garage doors with foam panels 203630159 "Garage Door Insulation Kit (8-Piece)" . I also replaced the astragal seal on the bottom of the doors and added PVC weatherstripping "#2 CAR SANDSTONE DOOR STOP" around the sides and top of the doors. A friend used a roto-zip tool, hammer drill and a chisel to cut half a brick out the brick wall for the lines to pass through. I used a blue "remodel" electrical box with the back cut out to protect the temporary hole in the drywall. I also used Gardner Bender Model # DS-110 Duct Seal Compound Plug to seal around the lines on the outside wall. When I remove this AC later, I will just put a solid electrical block off plate on the inside and will use something like a Josam 58710 Stainless Steel Wall Access Cover over the cut out brick on the outside. I hung the AC bracket on the inside wall using two 33" 2x4 pieces to keep the wall from being scarred up when I remove it all later. I used a Diversitech UC24423 3" Ultralite Condenser Pad to set the condenser on. It had enough room to overhang front and back by about 5". I used Coleman Cable 09607 10/4 Bulk Wire, 25-Amp 10-Gauge 25-Feet to wire it into the panel with a 20A circuit breaker. I used clear 5/8" hose from HD for the condensation drain. I later added a Supco SCM150 surge protector to the breaker feeding the AC. I connected everything then had an AC shop evacuate the lines for 24 hours and check it out afterwards all for $130. AC works great! It does great overcoming the Texas heat as well as several thousand watts of electrical use in the room. Not so sure about the "follow me" function that is supposed to use the temperature sensor in the remote. It seemed to have issues regulating temperature in the room for whatever reason. Not really an issue for me and it may be something I am not doing correctly. Both inside and outside units seem quiet to me and the look pretty darn good. No complaints really. UPDATE 9/21/14: Still going strong after 3 months! No complaints and very happy with the performance. UPDATE 4/22/15: No problems at all. Very pleased with this unit. UPDATE 7/17/15: Still working like a champ. I did place a box fan near the unit to help more evenly distribute the air around the entire space. I have lots of 6ft tall cabinets and other shelving and equipment in the middle of the room that tend to block the natural air flow of the Pioneer AC. The addition of the fan made a big difference in the dead air areas that tended to be a little warmer than the rest of the room. UPDATE 4/28/16: No problems at all. Very pleased with this unit.
