My scaredy-cat wimpy dog LOVES this pillow collar! She was terrified of the clear plastic cone and managed to break it from freaking out and crashing into things. The soft "comfy-collar" type doesn't allow for peripheral vision which is a problem for her and it entraps her ears as well as snags on everything in sight because of the exposed velcro. I have a Skye Terrier (picture a sheepdog on a basset hound's body) who obsessively licks and chews. (We've spent a fortune on food trials, testing and other meds and such at the vet, so please don't offer advice.) We keep this collar on her pretty much all the time because it prevents her from chewing herself bloody and she loves that she has a nap pillow that goes everywhere with her. I do have some suggestions for you that we've learned over the past few months of using this collar that may save you time and make the collar work even better for you. 1. Put your dog's own collar through the loops inside this collar. It will look like it will never fit, but if you had the dog collar adjusted properly before this addition, it will still fit. It conforms around your dog's neck once the inflatable pillow collar is on. It will be much easier if you use a dog collar that kind of plugs in like a seat belt, rather than one that has the thingy that you have to poke through a hole. 2. Inflate the pillow collar to the maximum amoumt of air it can possibly hold and make sure you poke that little valve thing down inside or it will deflate on you. 3. CUT THE TOES OFF A LARGE SOFT SOCK and put it on the inflated collar. (I'll explain this more in a minute) 4. Put the whole thing on your dog and after you secure the dog collar and then the velcro on the pillow collar, pull the sock over the velcro to keep it covered, especially where the opening in the inflatable tube is. This opening seems gravity-driven to always point down, and so this opening will always end up at the bottom, under your dog's chin. The velcro can cause a great deal of friction for some dogs and until we started using the sock, my dog had a big scab under her neck from the velcro. 5. About once a week or more often if you take this off your dog a lot, re-inflate the tube to make sure it still is very full, wipe the collar off so it doesn't get too stinky and put a clean sock over the collar. VOILA! IMPORTANT NOTE: If your dog's collar isn't snug enough or the pillow collar isn't inflated enough, it will move up and down on your dog's neck and your dog will be able to get around it to chew. Some dogs will figure out how to do that with any collar, but this one really works for us. Best wishes to you and your pet.
