I have wanted one of these forever but because of the expense coupled with the fact that I don't bake all the much I just never bought one. My company sent me a debit card to thank me for working for them and after careful consideration I decided to use it to buy this mixer. BEST IDEA EVER. This mixer is very heavy and very large. I leave it out tucked in the corner on my counter but if you have limited counter space please know that it'll be heavy to move around to use. The rubber on the bottom of the mixer helps it stay in one place even when kneading bread using the bread hook. You can hear the motor working hard but the machine stays put. So it turns out the reason I wasn't baking was because using a hand mixer was time consuming. Since I've gotten this kitchenaid I've made dozens of cookies for the cookie monsters in my household, cupcakes, and several loaves of bread. I actually found a bread recipe that's so fast and easy that we no longer use store bought bread. Why bother with all the additives and preservatives when you can mix up dough in 10 minutes costing pennies, let it rise for a hour or so and bake it. I had seen problems with the smaller version where the mixing bowl gets stuck to the base of the machine but since this one don't actually leave the bowl on the base while mixing it isn't a problem. You just add what you are mixing, turn the handle to raise the bowl up to the correct position, drop it down after you are done, and put pressure on the front to release the clip in the back. Couldn't be easier. Yes its expensive, Yes its heavy and big, Yes its probably more than I needed to get for my home kitchen but no I don't think it was a bad idea to get it. I love baking now. My family is eating better with healthy choices in baked goods and I'm the star of the household because I make all yummy things. Buy with confidence and I assure you that you will be baking along in no time at all and your friends and family will be in awe of your baking skills.
