Get the facts, forget the political talking points
Beating Obamacare is an `everyman's' guide to understanding what major changes to expect under the new health law. McCaughey is the nation's expert on the topic and has committed her career to reading lengthy legislation and informing the public on what's actually in bills pushed through Congress. We all know Washington politicians rarely read the bills they vote on, as long as a hat is tipped to their special projects. The only way to change the disgraceful way Washington does business is to get informed about the true contents of laws. DC politicians have underestimated the power and intelligence of the everyman. We aren't going to continue taking political talking points at face value. A renowned academic and former Lt. Governor of New York State, Betsy McCaughey has consistently pushed back against `business as usual' in local, state, and national politics. She has again taken a stand on behalf of `we the people' and written an informative, concise, and forward-looking guide on big changes under this new law. The book is easily broken down in sections based on major groups and how they are affected. Entrepreneurs, doctors, the young and elderly, uninsured, critically ill... McCaughey covers it all. The book includes timelines and additional resources on how to find more information. I was shocked to learn that as many as one-third of individuals may lose on-the-job health coverage in 2014 under Obamacare. Medicare funding is raided under this law to fund an unprecedented expansion of Medicaid, just as baby boomers turn 65. The Sec. Health and Human Services is granted incredibly BROAD powers over how doctors treat patients. Patient privacy is compromised as the Secretary forces doctors to collect certain information on every patient and register the data electronically. Although your doctor can now ask you if you've ever considered suicide, for example, they can't follow that question up with `do you have access to firearms', thanks to the Senate amendment slipped into the law (Section 2716 part c). The Obama health law is now the law of the land. The most disappointing part of all is the goal of helping the uninsured and getting control of healthcare costs was a bill of goods sold to the American public. McCaughey describes the VAST expansion of government employees under this law, requiring a major chunk of the revenue from the law's new taxes... revenue that certainly is not going to better our healthcare system or provide access to the needy. Let's stay informed on the issues and show the career politicians--Republicans and Democrats-- that we aren't as numb as they think. We the people have the power to make a change and stop the power grab and manipulation pouring out of DC. The best part of this book: All facts and figures are backed by specific citations of the law and published studies from credible institutions. Fact check McCaughey and anyone else making claims about what laws actually say. Facts don't lie and Beating Obamacare gives you the tools to uncover the truth about the future of our health system.
