Pendleton vs Hudson Bay blankets
I have several of the Pendleton National Park blankets and love them. I had always heard that the Hudson Bay blankets were the top of the line when it came to wool blankets. Looking online, I couldn't find any significant comparison of the two other than people saying, "Hudson Bay is better" or "Pendleton is better". So, I decided to create this review with photo comparisons so potential buyers can see the difference. When you're contemplating spending hundreds of dollars on a blanket, it's helpful to know the pros and cons of each. So, here are some observations:
*The Hudson Bay blanket is definitely thicker and "fluffier". If you are looking for a utilitarian blanket for ultimate warmth, I would say go with the Hudson.
*The Pendleton blanket has a tighter weave, is denser, and has finished edges on all sides. It looks more refined.
*In my opinion, the Pendleton has a softer hand. I found the Hudson Bay scratchy.
*If you are thinking of longevity or the heirloom quality, I think the Pendleton would age better due to the tighter weave and finished edges. The Hudson Bay blanket arrived with loose fibers at the edges. How will it look after 10 or 20 years?
*Due to the tighter weave of the Pendleton, it seems to pill less and transfer less "fuzzies" to other bedding/clothing.
*The Pendleton is more affordable. The high price of the Hudson seems to be primarily due to the name brand.
See my photos for comparison. I hope this review helps you purchase a blanket you will love.
