STAR TREK! Do you need to ask more? Sir Patrick is back again...and how!
Wow. I mean Wow. It's going to one hell of a ride and season 2 already a go. I'm an elder and watched the original Trek as it was released. I remember the pilot with Magel Barrett as Number One before Leonard Nmoy was brought in as Spock. In the day, Star Trek had a really long list of firsts: first interracial kiss, first female officer who commanded men, a Russian (during the Cold War, this was something simply not done) and a Japanese man (remember World War II?) My parents wouldn't let us watch because of Sulu and Chekov on the bridge, the list is endless. It spoke to us in our teens at the time. We had grown up hiding under our desks at school as the thing to do in an atomic attack and we had a joke: while you're under there, put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. My twin sister and I had a date every Wednesday night to sneak down to the play area in the house and watch it. (We were otherwise starved of TV except for Ed Sullivan and Lawrence Welk.) If you keep that in mind, I look at Discover and Picard is a marvel of technology, writing and direction (thanks Johnny Frakes.) And Sir Patrick is also the producer. How much more Trek can you get? Awesome, just awesome. As to proselytizing about Brexit and other issues, it matters, just as the firsts in the original were based on an ideal world with hope for the future when we, at the time, had none. Superbly acted, well directed and produced, masterfully written make this as potentially the best of the lot. I can't wait until next Wednesday.
