Strontium and K2 really work - research and my experience
I just wrote this review in the Nature's Life strontium review, which I'm pasting lower down.
I am most enamored with the full package of Strontium/D3/K2, but let me say there is good research that K2 makes a difference. I particularly saw research that K2 helps with tooth density (which became a big issue with me after I had developed osteoporosis) but also helps improve bone density.
There's been research about this for some time showing strontium especially but also K2 help bone density but it never made it to the meta-analyses because bone density studies tend to use very small numbers of subjects. But if you pool the findings over 100 studies, it's a no-brainier to me.
Interestingly (to me) K-2 is essentially cannabinoid-2, from (can I use the word for mj without getting blocked?) but to my knowledge (or at least in my experience) this product doesn't affect you in that way. Though I have seen references on the web that some people take extreme amounts to try to get it.
Since so much of my other review is relevant to this one, I am pasting it below.
I am a researcher and started reading recent medical journal articles in desperation. The research is very strong that Strontium and K2 work. The Italian Endocrinology Association reported last year it's far more effective than prescription medications for preventing hip breakage, the most important issue since it greatly increases the risk of death.
For those of you freaking about taking Strontium, I should mention that Strontium is an inert chemical. Only Strontium-90, an entirely different product is radioactive.
To get back, I started taking Calcium/magnesium/D3 in the morning (calcium supplements need to be taken a few hours before strontium to avoid it interfering and two Nature's life strontium/D3/K2 at night.
I've been taking this product for a year and a half. I'm excited to say my bone density has dramatically increased. After 7 months of taking it, my bone scan results found that my bone density increased 5%! The medical report concluded that my risk of breaking my hips fell from a 50% chance 10 years from them... to a 4% chance of breaking my hips - and this was two years later.
A year after that, I had a bone scan that concluded that I am either normal or have Osteopenia now - only two vertebra were rated in the latter. I'll take this with a grain of salt, but the Osteoporosis doctor ridiculed me for thinking I had Osteoporosis!
I've broken at least one bone every year for many years. For example, a couple of years ago I badly broke my knee cap, which took forever to heal. The following January I tripped on a stool in the dark and broke my right wrist in five places, requiring serious surgery..
So I can't say enough about how happy I am to have been taking it. It seems too good to be true, so I still walk around like a ghost, and bend over backward to avoid tripping or falling.
I noticed that Swanson's vitamins started making their own version, but stick with Nature's Life, which provides FOUR TIMES as much Strontium as their product.
Oh, also I expect that if this product helped my bones, it will help in other ways. For example the New York Times recently reported that people with greater bone mass also are better able to maintain their weight. And since of course Osteoporosis causes you to shrink in height, you become de facto heavier (remember, women the five pounds per inch you have above 5 feet?)
Strontium/D3/K2 is the best solution I've found but there are other compounds that also benefit the bones. New research indicates Calcium with magnesium and d3 is beneficial - contra what my impression was in the past. And melatonin and yogurt help. I'd have to refer back to the research, but there are other compounds.
