I have an 18 year old cat. He is mean, grumpy, and very demanding of me. We fight often. It hurts my feelings...but this has nothing to do with the review of this carpet cleaner. My cat, either due to his advanced age or due to him just being a petulant brat, routinely does his business on the basement carpet instead of in his litter box. Prior to getting the Scrub Elite cleaner, I would just spray some carpet foam on the "accidents" and then vacuum it. This did little to actually clean the carpet. Since no one wants to adopt my cat, I needed a new approach. Enter the Scrub Elite. The very first time I used this carpet cleaner I was absolutely amazed at its effectiveness. I cannot even begin to describe how gross the dirty water container was...which is an obvious tribute to how much crap (bad pun not intended) this machine pulled off the floor. It took three passes over each part of the carpet in deep clean mode...after the third pass, the dirty water container became much less disgusting...and the carpet literally looked brand new. This is my typical recommendation for using the machine on dirty carpet: Set it to deep clean. Start by going slowly forward to cover the path with cleaning solution...then let go of the solution trigger and very slowly pull the machine back over the path. You will see the very nastiest of dirty water get sucked up into the machine. Repeat this process at least one, maybe two more times. Then set the machine to rinse only and repeat the process one more time. Wait for the carpet to dry, then admire your work. If I had to come up with a gripe about this machine...it's a very minor issue, but the cleaner does go through its reservoir of water very quickly. I have to refill it several times to clean my basement carpet, which is about 300 square feet. I have attached a picture of my curmudgeonly cat, who is the sole reason for my purchase of this carpet cleaner.
