Don't listen to negative reviews about the unit
I ordered this unit and it arrived today. Everything was in the box and was packaged easy and very well protected. Thankfully the window adapter fit my window! The manual and description didn't give dimensions. My window is 45 inches wide. The adapter will fit a 48 inch wide or 48 inch tall vertical window. I hooked it up with ease. Pretty much self explanatory hookup. I'm a hotel engineer and work with all kinds of HVAC systems and ptac units. Hotels use these style stand alone for emergency services for faulty in house systems. So a guest can have a.c. if their room unit breaks down. Indoor units seem a little louder than wall mounted or window units. This unit is fairly quiet lol. I've heard louder cold water cooling systems than this thing. So don't worry about the negative reviews saying it is loud. It's typical fan motor noise like a house fan. Secondly many had bad reviews about the unit runs constantly and never shuts off. That's because it does not have energy star auto fan on and off. Those kind of units are more expensive to make. This unit runs fan constant because the room temperature sensor needs moving air to measure temperature. Then it tells the compressor to turn on. The fan speed is a modem style variable speed capacitor type. Meaning that when switching from low to high speeds, the motor slowly speeds up in a few seconds. It's inaudible. That's why people are giving bad reviews about the fan speed is the same as low and low is same as high speed. This variable delayed speed up keeps the unit quiet when changing fan speed. So yes the high speed is blowing faster. You just can't hear the fan motor speed up. Another myth that people are giving bad reviews about? This unit has a dehumidifier setting. Make sure you don't accidentally push the button on the remote control for that cycle. Dehumidifier cycle keeps compressor on until the humidity is out of the air, and the temperature is below the manufactures programmed setting that cannot be changed. Dehumidifier cycle monitors the incoming air moisture and will not turn off the compressor cooling system until it reaches whatever percentage of humidity the manufacturer pre set the unit for. No air conditioner is 100% efficient in the auto evaporate system b and will not be able to evaporate the humidity it pulls out of the room when humidity is over 95%. I've cleaned up many of overflowing hotel units in my career. These units are not to blame. It happens with any self evaporative systems. If you live in a very humid part of the country, I'd recommend elevating the unit and using the provided drain hose with the unit, and attach it to the drain pipe on back. Then run the drain either in a pan or bucket, or if your dwelling permits? Drilling a hole to drain condensation tank outside the home. Then the unit will not go into overflow protection and shut down with the famous Fl CODE!! I know those codes from my job as a hotel maintenance engineer lol. So if you read the bad reviews about the unit, and want a professional honest opinion? Go for it. You have nothing to lose but the sweat off your back! Because this beast is well underrated! It's more like 12000 btu power! That's 1 ton cooling capacity. Fan blows hard and compressor does the job! Hopefully it will last me a few years. Maintenance is the secret to these things. Keep filters clean, coils clean. If the coil behind air filter is dirty? Home depot has commercial foaming coil cleaners. You want the safe one that doesn't harm or corrode metals. It'll say it on the can. Heavy duty commercial unit coils are made of brass tubing. Home units are mostly aluminum coils.
