Roborock gets it
If you're here, its likely because, like me, you realized that there are really no good mopping robot vacs on the market and you want a solid mopping robot mop vac that will do a excellent job mopping and cleaning your floor. If that's the case, you are in the right place!
Months ago, I tried the Bissell Spinwave robot vacuum and it was subpar to say the least. I ended up returning it. I was ecstatic when I came across the news that Roborock would be releasing this S7 model. I bought it here on Amazon the same day that it released for the $599 sale price.
We have smooth, high-gloss white ceramic tile for the majority of our flooring and other hard flooring throughout our home with no carpet. Additionally, we have 4 dogs and KIDS. We literally had to use our Bissell Crosswave every other day if we wanted to keep our floors clean. Buying this robot mopping vacuum was definitely money well spent! I feel that it is one of the best investments that I have made in a while.
The navigation: This robot vac has smart navigation features including lidar which helps it efficiently navigate through my house without bumping all my furniture, appliances, and etc. The lidar also maps out my house so it knows where it has been and where it still needs to go so it doesn't clean the same area over and over but miss cleaning other areas. The best part is unlike camera based robots vacs lidar allows the S7 to clean in complete darkness without a problem.
It is worth noting though that on the second run the S7 got stuck on a black anti fatigue floor mat that we have. The cliff sensors was seemly having issues with it so I just picked the vacuum up and placed it on the floor and then I picked the mat up and I pressed the resume cleaning button in the app and it started up and continued cleaning.
The main silicone roller: Is good, but I have noticed a few things that about the roller that I don’t like. The roller doesn't seem as effective as a standard brush roller and sometimes leaves debris behind sometimes even after multiple passes. Because of the roller design a small amount of hair and other things can get wrapped around the inside of the roller ends (thats right I said inside the roller see pic). Lastly after regular use now for about a month or more I noticed that something may have wrapped around my roller in the middle and slightly started to tear the silicone roller fins which is slightly concerning since I havent run the vacuum excessively or even every day for that matter. On the plus side: the roller design really does a amazing job not allowing a ton of fur or hair to wrap around it like a traditional roller brush. This may seem like a small thing but I learned pretty quick while using my Wyze Robot Vacuum (and Bobi) that I hated cleaning tightly wound hair off of the brush roll after I ran the robot. As a side note though while cleaning off the roller I decided to take off the grey plastic ends and after pulling one side off I realized that it was designed to be twisted off an not yanked off.....Oops. Fortunately the part was forgiving and did not seem to be damaged.
The suction: Is great depending on which mode you pick I usually keep mine on Turbo for typical cleaning and on Max for excessive cleaning. I used the balanced mode for a few runs but I didn't like how much debris was being left behind so I pretty much stopped using it even though it didn't burn through the battery as fast.
The dustbin: Is well designed, the filter is at the top of the bin instead of the back so it is harder for debris to clog it and in turn it probably leads to better sustained suction even if dustbin gets pretty full. The dustbin though is to small in my opinion. Just about every other run I do the bin is overflowing and somewhat backing up inside the vacuum even though I empty it before every run. The self empty bin for this is almost a must have for me.
The app: Very polished and very robust in terms of functionality. I can schedule rooms to be done at certain times a day, multiple times a day, once a week, and etc. I can see the robot cleaning in real time and see the areas that have already been completed. The app also has a remote control function that let's me manually drive the S7 to specific areas. One interesting function in the app that I had a difficult time finding and figuring out how to use was the dual cleaning criss-cross and or grid cleaning pattern. It can not be accessed under the "Full" option in the map I have to select the "Room" option or the "Zone" option then tap the 1x "Cycles" icon and set it to 2x then I just tap each room on the map that I want the 2x criss-cross and or grid cleaning. As a side note there is also a 3x option where the robot will clean in the grid pattern and then do one last pass in between the lines created only from the first pass
The mop: This robot mops really really well. It puts down an adequate amount of water to clean but it does not put down to much that my floor becomes a slip and slide, on the highest setting the wet areas dries within a couple of minutes. I have found that for tougher stains or extra dirty floors I definitely have to pre-wet the mop pad run the S7 on the 3x option in the Zone or Room menu and on the highest scrubbing intensity for the best results but even then it is not perfect and it will still not completely remove every stain, but it does a good enough job to keep me from having to manually clean the floors. The wheels also do a great job of keeping traction while mopping on our high gloss tile. Something I noticed while running the mopping mode is that the real time animation also changes slightly from the standard vacuum animation to help you know that it is mopping which is a thoughtful nice touch.
The conclusion: I am very impressed with the S7 to say the least but there is always room for improvement. One thing I would like to see is better gear material instead of the plastic gears that operates the scrubbing function for the mop as I don't know how they will hold up over time especially with everyday use. The last things that I would like to see is a spare mopping pad included in the box, and the ability to use some type of sanitizing and or disinfectant solution in the water tank.
All things considered this is an impressive robot that cleans very well and then some, Bravo Roborock.
