Good quality at this price point
My husband and I just bought and assembled two of these dressers. So obviously, my review is my initial impression, as we've only been using them a few hours.
We have bought other assemble-your-own dressers before (they're still around after 8+ years), and these seem like good quality for that genre. No dresser at this price point will ever have the solid "built to last feel" that a real, all-wood dresser does. That said, the particle board pieces that comprise the sides and (most of) the back are quite solid-feeling. I'm impressed that the sides of the drawers are made of solid wood, and that the drawer runners are made of metal (the other dressers we've had like this ran on plastic runners that don't seem as sturdy as these ones). I also really love the knobs -- they have a nice, quality look. The drawers slide in and out nicely and aren't a struggle to open and close, like those with plastic runners. They do have a little bit of a "wobble" to the way they slide if you only pull on one knob, but it's nothing that feels like it's going to fall apart. The drawers do seem like they could be a bit larger, but I knew the dimensions when I bought them. I'm using these for kids' dressers, and they're larger than what my daughters had before. The drawer bottoms are the thinnest material in the functional part of the dresser, so the jury is out on how well they will stand up over time.
Assembly wasn't bad at all. All the holes were well-drilled and lined up where they should be, and the instructions weren't hard to follow. My husband and I are both reasonably competent but not especially handy, and we built the first one together in about 3 hours. The second one took only an hour and a half, since we knew what we were doing that time. (Pay close attention to the illustration on the bottom of page 4 that shows how to properly insert the large zinc cams -- if we had seen that, we would have saved ourselves some trouble!).
I'm rating this at 4 stars for now. Taking a little off because a) one drawer face had a very small chip, easy to touch of with a dab of paint marker; b) one drawer seemed very slightly shorter in width than the other drawers, so they look a tiny bit uneven; c) some of the sprayed-in packing foam adhered to the wooden drawer sides, and I had to spent some time scraping it out of the grooves (this happened in both dressers); d) one drawer didn't close quite as flush as the others, but that could also have been our assembly error.
All in all I'm quite happy with my purchase, and we have two very cute dressers for not much money. I will update this review as warranted.
