Electrohome USB Charging Alarm Clock Radio (EAAC475) If you are looking for basic sound quality out of clock radio, this is NOT the one for you (see Speaker section below). It's loaded with exceptional features that allow you to customize everything from display brightness to selecting a specific radio station that comes on with the alarm. A couple of the cool features are: The projector will display either time or temp. It can be rotated, turned on/off, and adjusted for focus. The alarms are pretty fancy: you can have it come on M-F, another alarm just for weekends, just one specific day, etc. The alarm also allows you to select a buzzer or radio station. For instance, you can have the radio set to 550 AM talk radio but when you set the alarm, you can select a FM music station. You can also set the volume level of the alarm radio station for when it comes on. For us older folks, it can be a bit frustrating at first. Most every button has at least 2 functions that require either a quick press, or press and hold the button, the press another button to toggle through selections. It does have 3 cords - the power cord, a very thin 3ft. cord for the AM antenna, and a 1 ft. cord with a plastic tip which is the temperature sensor. The USB port has a small switch next to it. Apparently this port can handle almost any device - if not charging device then slide switch from A to B, or vice versa. SPEAKER: I hate to say this but the speaker is horrible. It's basically one step up from a cell phone speaker. It sounds like its in a tin can and after you get past half volume it distorts because of the tincanny sound. This replaced an older Sony clock radio and the sound quality is night and day, the Sony sound blows the Electrohome away. Since I use the radio portion a lot, I'm not sure I can live with this poor sound. I like this unit so much I am tempted to open it up and see if I can install a bigger speaker. They appears to be more than enough room for a larger one. UPDATE: Well I went ahead and opened up the radio. Once I saw that tiny speaker I just had to replace it (see pic). I had to dremel out some plastic to make it fit. Holy cow.....what a different this made. Volume goes from 1-15. Sound now fills up the bedroom at 12 or 13. Now why can't they design this with a large round or even an oval speaker?
