Numbers speak for themselves. Temperature differences report.
Numbers speak for themselves really, so here are the results. Using a La Crosse Weather Station, a Craftsman Mulitimeter, and a Cen-Tech Infared Thermometer, I measured the temperature differences between a Cosco Car Seat with and without a Meeno Babie car seat liner.
The multimeter was used to assess variations in the 3 tools. All 3 tools came within +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit. The thermometer is a surface temperature reader that uses infared. It only measures the specific surface temperature of where the gun laser is pointing. The test car is a red Honda Accord with leather seats sitting in direct sunlight for a few hours. The remote temperature sensor is placed in a consistently shaded outdoor area. The ambient outdoor temperature is between 89F and 91F. I live in Walnut Creek, CA and the temperature doesn't start to drop until 6-7pm. Testing began at 4:00pm.
4:07pm- The car interior temperature came in at 123.4F and the leather seats in direct light measured 135.8F. This is not a comfortable environment to sit in at all.
4:10pm- Car seat installed. Car interior temps dropped a little because opening the door let a huge rush of hot air out. About 5 minutes after seat was installed I measured the seat surface (shaded) at 111.5F. Pretty much this is the same as putting it in a pre-heated oven. Temps rose quickly.
4:30pm- Outdoor temp is still consistent within 1 degree. Car interior temperature up to 126.1F. Car seat surface in shade is at 125F and direct light at 130F. Within 20 minutes the car seat surface increased 14.6 degrees.
4:40pm- Meeno Babie car seat liner installed. Baseline temperature at 93.5F (shaded) and 99.8F (direct light). Car interior at 124.3F because door has been opened for a few minutes now.
6:00pm- Outdoor temperature is at 91.2F and car interior is at 130.1F. Meeno Babies car seat liner surface temperature is at 106.1F (shaded), and 114.8F (direct light).
This should be an average situation for any person running errands or out with a child or infant. You leave a car seat sitting in the sun for 1-2 hours and come back to strap him/her in to go home. I still wince in pain as I sit in my car after it's been in the sun. Imagine what it's like for an infant. Meeno Babies car seat liner reduced surface temperature about 18 degrees in shade and 15 degrees in direct light. I'm sure other results will vary up but this is what I found with 2 hours of time and a few measurement tools. The main purpose is that Meeno Babies actually promotes air flow to cool backs. Typical car seats have a solid back surface or a cushion with material that isn't vented. Setting a layer of vented material between the car seat and the child reduces sweating and overheating. In California car seats are required for children up to 5 years old or 60lbs. In my opinion 5 years worth of a child's comfort is worth many times over what Meeno Babies cost. I'm personally a tech geek. I know what I want because I do extensive research on a product before purchasing and even after, I need to verify it myself. I think the best way to sum up this product is the next time you sit in a car which has been out in sunlight for awhile, think how hot it is for you and ask yourself how a child with much more sensitive skin would feel. I would definitely recommend this product to any parent. Price is just right for a gift as well.
