Great if you have hard-water
We just bought a house and the water where we live is around 24-25 grains /gal and before seeing this, I had never heard of it before. Once I read it and saw the positive reviews I decided to try it. I have to admit, I did cheat a little in that I had a plumber out here anyways installing a hybrid water heater anyways along with other plumbing repairs to the house so I had them install it for me. They brought up the main line, ran this over the main line pipe, which now comes up and goes thru a water sediment filter and then splits off to the new water heater and to the rest of the house. I knew as soon as we put this on that the previous build up was going to start coming off the pipes so I thought it wise to install a sediment filter to catch all that, especially not wanting to clog up my new water heater. This is one of the smartest investments we've made towards our household and am confident it will pay for itself many times over in the future. So glad we got it. Would definitely recommend - even if you have to have an 'honest' plumber come out and install it for you. Some plumbers were trying to sell me 'their' water softener systems but when I did the research on them, it would say it is good for hard water <10 grains/gal - which ours is over double that. No wonder you don't hear about these often, they make more money off selling salt or citrus treatment water softeners and other expensive treatment options, many of which involve monthly service fees. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that it was a good investment especially if you live in a area with hard water like we do.
