(102oz) This is how well it holds heat.
(102oz) I ran this test where I pre-heated the carafe and then filled it to the top with 206F water. In the first few minutes, it lost about 3 degrees - probably heating the carafe up. But after that, it lost about 3 degrees per hour between 203F and and 180F. And then lost about 2 degrees per hour between 180F and 145F.
For you non-geeks, I'll provide the take home message. Let's say your coffee maker provides coffee at 190F. And the ideal serving temperature is 175F, but can be reasonably served as low as 160F (sure 155F, but the coffee in the carafe will cool down while being served, so let's say 160F). That means you have between 4 and 8 hours to serve it - in order to be in the sweet spot.
As for me, I serve tea (chai) in mine which serves nicely at 155F, so I can go close to 20 hours if I bring the tea to a near boil.
