The sensor is Ring's motion detector which give you many mounting options within your mailbox. I did not like the sensor on the door of the mailbox, so I mounted it to the rear of the mailbox and placed the antenna on the underside of the mailbox. This way no one knows there is a sensor there. Every time the mailbox is opened, the sensor is tripped and a notification is sent to my phone and Alexa. For those that mention there are no push notifications, that is a false statement. In order to setup notifications, you must have the Ring Bridge. Secondly, you must go to the mailbox sensor within the App and turn on the notification. This is the same for every other Ring device.
