Prior to starting my whitening process, I had expressed concern to my dentist about sensitivity. I’d had a bad experience many years ago with OTC whitening strips and hoped to avoid any problems. My dentist prescribed me a special toothpaste to use for a couple weeks before starting, but had failed to tell me that I should not rinse (even with water) immediately after using it. That was my routine and I didn’t know any better. In spite of three weeks on the special toothpaste, I had zero benefit from it… of course I didn’t know this until after my first whitening session. I started my whitening process on Tuesday evening, using Opalescence 15 PF. By Wednesday morning, I was miserable. I started doing my own research for relief options and came upon this product. I ordered the same day and was fortunate to have to product in hand by Friday evening. It was perfect timing. The sensitivity had gotten better by Thursday evening, so I had whitened again and was again in pain on Friday. I was able to use the gel immediately and although it wasn’t complete instant relief, it made a huge difference in my level of discomfort. I repeated the treatment on Saturday morning for added relief. I have now whitened every night since then and followed it up with about 20 mins (the instructions recommended 5) of the re-mineralization gel. The active ingredient is 1% fluoride and the minty flavor is pleasant. As with the toothpaste, I spit it out after use; I do not rinse or drink anything for at least thirty minutes. The first day, I still had very mild sensitivity and now it is gone completely. I would definitely recommend this product! From my research, I learned that there are special calcium based toothpastes that will actually heal / seal the holes in the dentin, but they are not available OTC in the US yet. (Search Colgate Pro-Argin) Fortunately I will be visiting Canada soon and plan to pick some up. Regardless, I will never whiten again without having this re-mineralization gel on hand.
