Smooth sewing all the way with these washers!
I heard about these bobbin washers on a quilting blog and decided to try them after experiencing some problems with tension on my last quilt. It seemed no matter what I did - from adjusting the tension, re-threading the whole tension system, changing out the needle, reloading the bobbin, changing bobbins all together, etc. - I was still having really terrible issues with my bobbin not spinning properly. (and I did clean out the bobbin case twice) Frustrated, I ordered this product. Since installing one of these, I have had no bobbin thread problems - no loops, no catches and no jumpy bobbin - at all!
Installation is a breeze - just drop one in your machine's bobbin case before installing your bobbin and you're ready to go. They're a little pricy - about a buck per washer - but worth every penny, in my opinion. And, from what I understand, they last a long, long time. I've been using them for about a week and a half and, as I mentioned above, I have had no issues what so ever nor have I seen any noticeable wear on the washer. What a delightful product!!
UPDATE:
I just wanted to add a little more information on these after having used them for almost two years. I have been using the very same bobbin washer since October 2012. And I use my machines between three and five times a week. In fact, this bobbin washer started out in my Singer sewing machine and I just transferred it to my new Janome in January and it is still going strong. I can't quite tell but it seems maybe a little thinner than the brand new, unused ones in the package. So it would seem they will wear out eventually.
And, with regard to bobbin tension issues, I have never had any bobbin thread issues since installing one of these bobbin washers! Never having to stitch rip an impossible nest of tangled, mangled bobbin thread again is invaluable in my opinion.
So I can officially change my position on the price. If one lasts even a year at one dollar per washer, the whole package would last you a decade. Again, this is completely dependent on how much and how hard you sew but for something that helps pretty much eradicate bobbin tension issues, I think these are so incredibly worth it.
