no cone is a joy, but I did my research and am happy ...
Let me be clear, no cone is a joy, but I did my research and am happy with this product HOWEVER I did modify it. ***Manufacturer take note because I looked at all the reviews from the many animal designs offered (because the cone is the same) and I did the following:
- I attached two plastic fast clips so I could be CERTAIN that Velcro did not give way and allow escape.
- I also use a tiny collar run through a canvas loop I attached to the top of the neck opening that I then attached to the rear loop on his harness so the top stayed at the top and the Velcro stayed at the bottom, no cone rotation . A simple tether clip would work best
- Next I hot glued popsicle sticks and sealed the tips nearest to the floor with a hot glued piece of canvas "ribbon". He will not be grabbing the ruffle (which he can definitely get a hold of since he already has) and then flexing inward and folding over the cone so much he can reach his stitches.
So basically I am saying there should be more than Velcro fasteners, boning to prevent folding and something to keep it properly oriented on their neck.
With these things in place I anticipate success but I will update this review if I learn otherwise as the next 7-10 days unfold. See my picks if you are crafty and want to take a few minutes to puppy proof your cone as well. It took me about 35 minutes and I used solutions I had on hand. Oh and I highly recommend the Squirrels in a log toy as a distraction. Even dopey from surgery he wanted to check it out:)
