The nice distinguishing feature of this bed top is the "sherpa side"
First I want to note that all the 5 star reviews on this page appear to be either written in broken english by people with allegedly english names, or they appear to copied from reviews of other products. Second I love it. Third, like all of these lower cost toppers, the stated puffiness in inches is purely silly. These are not pillowtops, these are low density filled mattress pads now going by the upscale name of toppers like they were pillow tops. But with that said, this one differs strongly from it's competition in two very valuable ways. first it has one side that called the "sherpa" side that the picture doesn't really do justice too. Indeed that picture isn't what is even looks like. But what it is is a kind of soft pile that is about the thickness of a wool shearling hat. It's not scratchy like wool. It's a little less dense that wool so it's soft and compliant. It feels good. What's nice about this is that unlike the whispy thin puffy material that has no value as a plush support this is like a thick plush sheepskin. It has some body to it. So there's effectivley a thin layer of soft padding that doesn't crush completely out when you lie on it. And that's probably what you were looking for. If you want a real pillow top none of the less expensive toppers, even ones saying they are "overstuffed" or "extra thick" are satisfying. But if you want one that gives you a thin breathable and soft layer between you and a hot sticky memory foam bed then you will be satisfied. It maybe the only one that's any good at this job. The other nice feature, found on some of the better competition is the huge stretchy pockets. The sides of this will engulf all of your mattress and stay put. I have my doubts it would be good for a 21" mattress, but my 13" one is just fine. Now this stretch side panel is very very thin. THat doesn't matter for the purposes of it's job. What I worry about is possibly tearing it, especially after a few trips through the laundry. So these are my initial impressions. I'll know more when I get to washing it.
