This L'Oreal Paris Cosmetics Voluminous Primer Mascara can boost the length and volume of your mascara, or it can make your lashes clumpy- everything depends on if you are putting it on correctly. You will also find that some mascaras simply do not need a primer. Before you even attempt to use any mascara primer, make sure you have a simple inexpensive lash comb. Once you have a lash comb, all you need is to follow these steps: 1.) Make sure your lashes are clean. 2.) You are going to do ONE EYE AT A TIME- primer then mascara before doing the other eye. 3.) Use the primer just as you would use your mascara. Put it on exactly the same way you put on your mascara. 4.) As soon as you are finished with the primer, run your lash comb through the lashes. This is most important to remove any clumps to keep it smooth for the mascara. 5.) After you run the lash comb through, wait only 30 seconds to apply your mascara. You do not want to wait longer, as then the primer will be too dry and come out flaky. You only want the primer to set, not dry. This is why you are doing one eye at a time, as you only have 30 seconds from using your lash comb to applying your mascara. 6.) Now apply your mascara as you normally do. 7.) I use different mascaras, depending on what's on sale, what I have a free sample of, or just to try new ones to see if anything is better than what I am currently using. I got very different results with my different mascaras. I own several different L'Oreal mascaras. This primer mascara made every L'Oreal mascara I own look thicker and longer. This primer almost doubled the thickness and length of my L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara. I tried this primer with a sample I received of Chanel's Super Curl Lengthening Mascara and there was basically a tiny more bit of length, but not thickness. I also saw a little bit more length when using this primer with Calvin Klein's CK One mascara. On these more costly designer name mascara's, there was a bit more length, but not any more volume. I last tried this primer mascara with my old reliable Revlon mascaras. With my Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume mascara, there was no difference. I then tried my newest Revlon-Ultimate All-In-One Mascara- again no difference. Then, I tried this primer with Revlon's Lash Potion Mascara and the primer made my lashes a bit longer, but not thicker. Last, I used this primer with Maybelline mascara- this was the most dramatic difference- much thicker and noticeably longer. I have used eye shadow primers before and it can make a dramatic difference, depending on the shadow color. I found the same to be true for this mascara primer- it can make a dramatic difference depending on the brand. The most dramatic difference really showed when using this with L'Oreal's own brands and Maybelline's. Since this primer doesn't make any difference at all with some brand mascara's, I'm giving it 4 STARS, as it can actually give some mascaras dramatic results.
