This machine has rocked!
Well, I can't speak for or understand the negative reviews of this machine. This is my 3rd in 4 years. Sounds crazy? Ha! My 1st was was abused to a short life by a former employee after 1.5 years so I don't count that one. My 2nd FH50150 lasted 2years 2 months. Sounds like a short lifespan? Consider that we use this machine at least 8 HOURS every WEEK of the year. I received my 3rd in December 2019 for $99+ taxes. (it came with missing parts, but I clearly didn't care as I have spare parts I've never used :) I was about to buy a 4th, but the price jumped to $149.00 literally overnight. I've read all the negative reviews and can understand some of them. Others are the usual uneducated boohoo poor me garbage. The negative reviews I understand are most likely from not understanding how to clean and store the machine. After each use, the machine is picked up and inverted with the head extended to the flat position and drained into a 'slop sink'; and be sure to squeeze the spray trigger to drain that line as well. Meaning, all liquids drain from the spigot that the clean water reservoir sits on. I disassembled my 2nd machine to verify their concerns about leakage, etc. I found some rusted screws but no other obvious signs of corrosion. I'm not going to replace the motor to find out either. I'm not an engineer, but I'm pretty sure that all motors like these have carbon brushes and given the crazy amount of hours we used this sucker, I'm super happy it lasted 2+ years!!! Carbon brushes have a specific lifespan, btw. And I seriously doubt Hoover designed this motor to last upwards of 1000 hours in a commercial setting. (other notes: yes, it has a tendency to leak a tiny bit. ALL carpet cleaners will eventually leak! Duh. If you want perfect, spend $1000+...and that one will will leak too! The bottom exhaust works very well if you go slow. If you move fast, no machine will extract properly. Clean the mesh screen behind the suction blade every time. Scrub the green brushes with a coarse, plastic scrub brush under hot water after each use as well. Drain the little space at the bottom of the clean water tank by pushing up on the little 'thingy' every time. Dry all the parts overnight, then put together and store for next time)
