Could this be a Shark killer!?
Let me start off by saying I know vacuums more than most. I own a vacuum cleaner service center and have seen the entire workings of almost every vacuum out there. Saying that, I can without a doubt say this is one of the best performing vacuums I have used. While it does lack some features of some other popular units out there, it can certainly make up for it.
Pros:
- Superb performance on every carpet type. I have read other reviews saying that the FloorSense has a problem sensing lower pile carpets. This
can be solved by switching off the FloorSense setting, allowing the brush roll to always operate when the vacuum is in the reclined position.
- Excellent suction power! This machine beats my $1500 Riccar and my Shark Rotator.
- FloorSense. This feature allows the vacuum to sense between carpets and bare surfaces without having to touch any switches or levers.
- Great Filtration. One of my biggest problems with my Shark is the horrible filtration. Almost every time I use it I have to wash out the filters because
they instantly clogged. This Hoover so far has been pretty good at filtering out any dust particles while still leaving the filter almost spotless. I would
compare the filtration to a Dyson.
- Decent accessories. For the price the tools you receive with this Hoover are of pretty good build quality and perform well. The wand is very easy to
use with all of the accessories.
- Long 30 foot power cord. Most manufacturers today seem to have opted for a 25 foot cord on their units, so the little extra length with the React is
much appreciated.
Cons:
- Slightly heavy. This machine is pretty hefty for its size. It is considerably heavier than my Shark, but also much lighter than my Riccar. I haven't
noticed this being a problem while cleaning with the unit, only when transporting.
- Stiff swiveling. When compared to my Shark, this Hoover is a bit harder to maneuver. This could possibly improve with more use.
- Lack of features. This really isn't a con as much as just a difference in models. The reason I purchased my Shark Rotator was for the ability to
detach the suction unit from the wand and powerhead and clean under beds and such. This particular Hoover React does not have that option, but
shortly Hoover will be releasing a model that can do this.
- Longevity. As with all vacuums in this price range you can only expect so much before the cleaner craps out. This vacuum seems to be pretty
sturdy for being all plastic, but it's only a matter of time before things start falling apart. I'd expect a good five years of service before the brushes
and belts stretch and wear and no longer clean optimally. That is if the unit is properly cared for and serviced.
If you are in the market for a new vacuum then this Hoover React should definitely be a consideration! It is a great cleaner in the lower to mid price range. It has many nice features, a large dirt cup, and great performance on a variety of surfaces. It's a great all around vacuum!
