MBP36 vs. MBP36S
With the arrival of our first baby, I wanted to make sure the video monitor we purchased fit our needs. I had the opportunity to purchase both Motorola MBP36 and MBP36S to compare. The difference between the two video baby monitors was not obvious at first, so I contacted Motorola. Motorola advised the MBP36S, is the newer version of the MBP36 that includes upgraded video and audio. This review is only my personal experience and opinion.
Audio: The audio on the MBP36S is MUCH more clear. So much that the lowest volume setting is still too high! This may be a negative while you are sleeping at night, however, during the day if you are trying to complete 100 things on your To Do list while baby sleeps for an hour, the higher volume will make sure you don't check to video monitor every five minutes to make sure you didn't miss something.
Video: Both units use infrared technology for night vision but the MBP36S video quality appears to be a slightly clearer then the MBP36 (I included a photo of the MBP36S night video, but for some reason the photo rotated when uploaded so I apologize).
Monitor: The MBP36 utilizes rubber button while the MBP36S has plastic. This is because over time, the print on the 36's rubber button comes off. Not an issue with the MBP36S. The MBP36S also gives users the option for split screen to view multiple cameras at once. If you have more than one child, this is handy. Although since I do not have multiple cameras, I am unable to review this option.
Pan/Tilt: Only difference I noticed is when you pan/tilt on the MBP36S, the audio pauses when the camera moves. The MBP36 does not do that.
Power Cords: Both cameras (and the MBP36 parent monitor) use a male/female pin which is usual for this type of product. Here is where the MBP36S steps up. The MBP36S utilizes a microUSB power adapter. This ensures the monitor is fully plugged in when charging. But the best part is, all Android phones also use a microUSB power adapter. So if you need a spare power adapter for the living room, just use your phone charger!
Summary: The updated audio and video alone made me chose the MBP36S. The one second image delay can be annoying, but the MBP36S appears to be better quality for the long run.
NOTE: the MBP36 cameras are not compatible with the MBP36S!! If you currently owe a MBP36 and want to upgrade to the MBP36S, thinking you will now have two cameras and a new monitor, that is not the case.
I have tested numerous other baby video monitors in order to find one that meets my expectations. I hope this review helped you. If so, please click "Yes" below.
