So much better than a litter genie.
I have always just used old grocery bags and that is a messy, irritating way to clean a litter box. I have used litter genies when I catsit for my parents and that is even worse than using grocery bags. So many negatives that I won't even get started on how much I dislike litter genies! This little trash can is fantastic. I hate being stuck buying specific system refills and I like that I can use whatever bags I have on hand that happen to fit size-wise. I love that I can just cart it around to our three boxes and do a daily litter patrol, then seal the lid down and put it aside without a smelly mess. One of our cats loves to eat soft plastic so a container that holds the plastic trash bag inside was a must. This trash can also has a big enough top that I can use a large litter scoop and not have litter fall out the sides like when you use a litter genie with anything larger than a tiny little litter scoop. I only just got mine so I can't attest to longevity, but I am quite excited about this upgrade to our poopin' scoopin' system. Update October 2019 The lid on my litter can doesn't stand up like the picture and defaults to 180 degrees backwards. I'm a bit concerned about how well the hinge will last due to the pressure of that position but so far it is fine. The hinge is the part of the can that I am concerned with the most though over time. If you're having issues with the can wanting to tip back when empty then try moving the handle to the forward position instead of backwards when you open the lid. Doing that fixed the tippy issue I had with mine when there wasn't any litter in it and I don't have to lean it up against anything to get it to stand up on its own. Make sure any bags you get for it are deep enough to fill the bottom and that will help take pressure off the other possible failure point which is the can's snaps. I tried some bags that almost worked for depth, but the bag really needs to fill the bottom or I think the snaps will eventually fail if you're holding up any weight with them by having a bag that is too short. I've been using the bio bags made for it so far but I'm on the lookout for some cheaper plain bags for it so I don't have any suggestions yet on specific bags. I carry it between three cat boxes and by the time it is half full it is an uncomfortable weight for me to carry around the house so I empty it out more frequently than I technically have to just because of weight and not a lack of space.
