ACURITE Humidity Monitors? Pretty Accurate.
I bought 3 AcuRites since last week. After letting them sit at the same spot for hours I took this picture. I listed them as A, B and C so it is easier to explain. A = B = Model 00325 and C = Model 00613 which is also sold at Amazon.com. C has a clip in the back besides a magnet strip like A and B. Perhaps the clip costs a little more. C is more compact, looks nicer in my opinion, and they all use one AA battery. Since they are humidity monitors, I'm not as concerned about the temperature accuracy as much. However it is a bit disappointing that after many hours sitting at the same spot, none of the 3 units display the exact same humidity. Per this manufacturer, + and/or - 3% is normal. In that sense, they are all accurate. But we all want to see the exact same readings, don't we? There are several things I would like to point out from this one single photo: 1) B (Model 00325) says 40% of humidity is "OK" inside its little house icon, but 41% humidity with C (Model 00613) is considered "LOW". 2) Unit B tells the indoor HIGHT humidity is "41%", A says "47%, and C states "51%". The 10% discrepancy is substantial. 3) Unit A states the temperature is trending down (see the small arrow next to the temperature 64F), but B contradicts A, totally. 4) Unit A indicates indoor humidity is stable with an arrow pointing to the right, but B thinks it is going up. If we don't have them side by side we cannot really tell any difference. In this comparison, Unit A is likely the most accurate in terms of humidity. Why is that? Our humidifier that has a digital humidity gauge was only about 3 feet away from these 3 AcuRites at the time I took the picture and its display matched Unit A at exactly "43%". And the humidifier had not been turned on for the prior 8 hours before this picture was taken at about 04:00PM. Because of the inconsistency, I can't really give a 5 Star. But I thought this little comparison might help potential buyers a little. I feel these two models are both inexpensive and rather accurate for their purpose. But will they last for several years? Some reviewer have complained the Accurite quality they experienced was less than satisfactory. Hopefully we all get good quality units that last several years. Thank you.
