Surface 3: A Wonderful experience thus far. Just don't forget to buy the pen.
I picked my Surface 3 up from my local Best Buy yesterday (sorry Amazon, I had a gift card) with the expectation it wouldn't be quite as good as the Surface Pro 3 I'm used to. Well the good news is, I was pleasantly surprised. My current Surface Pro 3 is the i3 model with 4GB of RAM. For what I use the Surface 3 for, it runs just as fast as my Pro 3. Now, let me be clear, I use my Pro 3 for taking notes, browsing the internet, and streaming my local collection of movies and tv shows. No games. Mainly as a business device. In regards to those needs, the Surface 3 shows no discernable difference in quality or performance. If you decide you want to start throwing CAD or Photoshop at it be my guest, but I can't promise it will work as well; as a matter of fact it most definitely won't. The Surface 3 and the Surface Pro 3 are meant for different levels of productivity. Now, split screen multitasking works great, it's awesome to have my email on one side of the screen and a couple tabs open on the other. Also taking notes on one side with a skype conference call on the other is fairly common for me and performs quite nicely. The tablet can get a bit warm to the touch, but that's to be expected of any PC when you start really doing work on it. Yes, I called it a PC, because that's what it is. It's aPC in a tablet form factor running a full Windows OS that you can install traditional Windows software on. Gone are the days of Windows RT with it's drab app store and lack of third party support. This is the real deal Windows wise. I personally plan on buying a few of these for my family to take to school and their work, it's really that good. Lighter than my Pro 3 by a noticeable amount and still does what I need it to do. All in all it's a wonderful device, just don't forget to buy the pen, it is separate this time around so be mindful. It's an extra $50 but totally worth it, it's essentially a must have accessory.
