I have a Liftmaster garage door opener that is only compatible with 1 smart controller (the MyQ Smart Remote). Problem is, the manufacturer charges a monthly fee to allow Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa compatibility. The amount was minimal but the principal of it really bothered me. The manufacturer claimed they only charged the monthly fee to keep the product price down. However most other smart garage remotes cost about the same amount and include Google or Alexa compatibility free of charge. I had other Meross products and liked them so I looked into Meross. Meross has a workaround that alows their smart opener to connect to virtually any garage door opener. Simply connect the Meross smart garage door opener directly to one of your remotes and, vuala, it works. Great idea. But if you don't have a spare remote then what else can you do? I figured if I can hook the Meross Smart garage door opener to a remote then why not connect it to the wall button. I did some testing and found that it worked exactly the same as hooking it directly to a remote. This made it easy because I could place the Merros Smart GDO right next to the wall button where it was easy to service and also made it easier for me to locate the sensor in a place where it would work well with my garage door. I gave this opener 4 stars because of a couple deficiencies I see in the product that hopefully will be remedied in the near future. Pros: The Meross Smart garage door opener is easy to set up and connect to your Wi-Fi. The app is easy to use. It will connect to virtually any garage door opener even if the opener is listed in the Meross incompatibility list. The app alerts you when the door has been left open for a certain amount of time that you set. The app allows you to check the status of the door and will tell you if the door is open or closed. You can open or close the garage door from anywhere using the Meross app. It is compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa without having to add a hub AND THERE IS NO MONTHLY FEE FOR THAT FUNCTIONALITY. Cons: (Deficiencies) Right now the app does not allow you to put the Meross Smart garage door opener on a time schedule to close the door automatically at a specific time. I spoke to Meross about this and I was told that they would consider adding that functionality in the near future. I later found that Google allows you to include a time schedule when setting up a custom routine in Google assistant. This seems to work well and has been fairly reliable. Although you can add the location of your Meross Smart GDO into the app, I have yet to figure out how to make it open my garage door via proximity to my house. Google does not talk directly to the Meross Smart GDO so you have to say something like "Ask Smart Meross to close the garage door." Fortunately Google allows you to create shortcuts/routines that fix that annoying quirk. If Meross would just add a couple simple functions that many other smart GDOs already have, I would give it 5 stars.
