I have been on a diet, eating lots of salads, and have tried everything I could think of to keep the lettuce fresh. Even after purchasing a salad spinner, which I liked ok, I was still throwing a lot of lettuce away because it became wilted and brown. Then I purchased this salad keeper and the result has been a total turn-around in the condition and longevity of my lettuce. I first cut up (with a plastic lettuce knife - don't use metal knives on lettuce), washed and spun my lettuce out in the salad spinner. I then put it in this salad keeper, opening the vents and putting 1/2 cup of water in the bottom as the directions state. The last bowl of lettuce was taken out for use about a week after it was first put in there and it was just as crisp as could be and only a few little brown spots. In fact, the first time I took the keeper out of the frig to make a salad the lettuce was actually more crisp than when I put it in there fresh. If you like salads and want to keep your lettuce fresh, purchase one of these. I'll never be without it again.
