I ordered this book with enthusiasm, and it exceeded my expectations. Dan is a gifted storyteller and an authentic communicator, which is on full display in The Blue Zones American Kitchen. His talents are a breath of fresh air in a crowded cookbook space, and I am so glad I ordered this book. As you would expect from a book by National Geographic, the photos are stunning, and the recipes are divine. Consider just some of the cuisine from diverse communities of America’s food culture: Fire-Roasted Cabbage With Roasted Chili-Chestnut Sauce, Lion’s Mane and Nettle Tamales With Plum Sauce, Coconut and Spice Chickpeas, Hoppin’ John With Carolina Gold Rice and Sapelo Red Peas, Buffalo Cauliflower Tacos, Black Bean and Nopalitos Tostadas With Pickled Red Onions, Bean Thread Noodles With Bok Choy and Shiitake Mushrooms, Red Cambodian Curry, Roasted Okinawan Sweet Potato With Coconut Ginger Cream, and so much more. This book is beautiful, and the cultural representation of the diversity of the American palate is inspiring. There are so many recipes I look forward to exploring. Thank you, Dan, and National Geographic, for this masterpiece. It’s time to get cooking!
