Regardless of what some others have said, this is a 'commercial duty' FF cutter. It's cast iron and stainless steel throughout. I haven't seen a scrap of plastic. Will cut potatoes up to about 6" long. With the 1/4" cutter screen it produces a FF similar to McDonalds, with the 3/8" the result is a larger fry more like Wendy's or Burger King's. If you want to attempt to cut sweet potatoes, you should order one with the 1/2" screen or perhaps one of the wedge screens, (remember, the smaller the screen, the more cuts you will be making, and the more force it will take).
