A nice upgrade in convenience and usability
It has been a few years since my last color all-in-one ink jet printer and I was delighted by the upgraded features that I found on this Brother MFCJ805DW model.
From the very first steps, I noticed improvements that enhance the convenience. The entire control panel with LCD screen can be tilted upward for optimal viewing. I love the fact that I don’t have to bend over and try to read each step at an awkward angle. The LCD screen walks the user through not only the initial set up but also the various functions.
The ink tanks are located right in front in an easy to install side panel. The ink tanks come dated with an expiration date well into the future and the fact that they are guaranteed to provide one year on average of printing makes me worry less about the ink either running out or drying up just when I need it most.
Another nice touch is the label, right inside the print tray, that shows paper direction and print placement. Since I mostly use white paper, I tend to forget which is the top and bottom placement when I use specialty papers, etc. I also like the fact that the paper tray can be completely removed for easier paper size adjustment.
The Brother MFCJ805DW is also backward compatible with areas that I do not use, such as sending or receiving faxes. It also comes with a driver installation disc for both Windows and Macintosh if one does not want to directly download them.
Connecting with my network wifi took seconds using the LCD screen. It immediately found my network and I had only to enter the password to get an immediate connection. Brother Web Connect gives a temporary key number that allows connection to the web. What is really nice is that the menu on the LCD screen allows one to choose cloud accounts to save scans, including Google Drive, Dropbox, OneNote, OneDrive and others.
The copy and scan features both work nicely and items can be scanned from a pc, mobile app or at the machine. I do like the option for Easyscan sending a copy to my email address. The items can be fed in with the document feeder or the lid can open to put individual fragile items in one by one.
Since I have an older Brother mono laser printer, I was already using the Brother iPrint&Scan app as well as Google cloud print. Windows 10 immediately found this model as a printing choice too. I like having the ability to print from mobile apps, Google chromebooks, as well as Windows 10.
The copies printed by this Brother MFCJ805DW are quite nice, both pdf as well as jpg. The scanned copies are excellent. This is a really easy to use all-in-one inkjet printer.
